It borders to the North on the Department of La Paz, to the South on the Department of Potosí, to the East on the Departments of Cochabamba and Potosí and on the West on the Republic of Chile.

The climate is cold, but healthy. His annual average temperature is 9 degrees centigrade, coming in summer up to(even) 20 ° C at about 11 AM and part of the evening. Oruro is one of the principal producers of quinua and animals like lama, vicuña, alpaca of Bolivia.

Tourism

The Department of Oruro includes 39 % of the tourist attraction of Bolivia, relies on at present with approximately 374 tourist attractions in his different categories (Natural Places, Urban and Architectural Patrimony, Scientific Achievements, Ethnography and Folklore and Programmed Events.

Nevertheless in spite of being provided with almost 25 % of the tourist product at national level,  do not exist political effective of commercialization of the tourism, having been detected between the weaknesses of this departament, the small one or almost any diffusion and promotion of the cultural and natural places with which Oruro is relies on.

Thinking that the tourism is the phenomenon referred to the voluntary displacement of the persons of his place of origin to others, in order to satisfy his needs of; recreation, religion, health, investigation, observation of flora and fauna , etc. is important to face an aggressive way of showing the products that are capable of effective sale.
